okay. i can sketch reasonably well. on paper. i want to be able to make decent pictures on the computer. i realize this is probably a very difficult skill but i've slowly taught myself to draw over the years and now i wanna start messing around with computer art/graphics. judging from the quality of all you guys' avatars i am under the impression they are done in a program of a better caliber than my Paint program on a scanned in picture (that's how i did the gryphon avatar i'm using now). ummm... okay... first of all... where do i start? any suggested free programs i could mess around with till i got semi profficient? and second of all.. if this is covered already.. how do i go through the lessons here ? tis a bit overwhelming _________________ Curious about Gryphon? I use photoshop 6 its a nice prog but expensive. there are tons of others out there.
some of the avatars seen are paper and pen scanned and reduced. mine is 3d graphics that i import into photo shop for post render touch ups. see more results in CGI art thread. _________________

this is a good tutorial to get started in colouring with photoshop - although if you search the net a little, you'll find many many more _________________ Throw me to the wolves because there's order in the pack,

Where to start? Hmmm..
Well this foxy needs to be in the right mood, or gear...
and he hasn't drawn for a while. Might as well...

Free?

I use JASC Paint Shop Pro, myself. Not free, but considerably less expensive than Photoshop. And it comes bundled with Animation Shop, which is great for making animated GIFs.

Yeah, the GIMP is good. Use that myself. One of a load of great Open Source software out there. _________________ Stuart "Sslaxx" Moore. |

lets see if this will work....[/img]
Kind of small-
But I found the image would enlarge if clicked, so I think I can work with these.
This by the way, is my very FIRST piece of finished furry art- from way, way back in 87.
I thought it was long gone in the mists of time- or the chaos of multiple moves..
Its intended as something to encourage others to learn to draw, and much more importantly, to not give up drawing.
Ever.
Anyone can improve, and I hope to be able to get more time in to help others realise this.
