I found this picture on Newsday.com today:
"Pelusa, a 14-year-old female polar bear, at Mendoza's Zoo in Buenos Aires, Argentina, turned violet after veterinarians administered a drug to treat a skin infection. Veterinarians said she should turn to her normal color -- white -- within a month."

Actually, it's entirely believable that the polar bear turned violet. Most people don't realize that their fur isn't white - it's clear. The fur is these little tubes, and they allow color to come through. There have been cases of algae getting inside their fur, and turning them green. No harm to the critter, but it's green. Obviously, this drug they administered turned the bear's skin violet.
Now, how's that for proving that I know too damned much useless trivia? _________________ That which does not kill me probably hurt like a sonuvabitch. |

Should we ask the DJ on KWKAT to play "Love is Blue"?

Ive spotted that bear a couple times in print, one was definitely Fortean Times, I think the other was News of the World or similar..
Wow, being a colorful character certainly gets your name spread round
It claimed the result was due to the bear being injected with some compound for some infection. I know there is a couple dyes that are toxic, and are also used for microscope slide staining, so theres a possibility of it being true
