No More Feeling Like An Apollo 13 Astronaunt In Mid-mission.... |
Ah, but Apollo 13 was the end result of a concatenation of screw-ups; none of which was enough by itself but, taken together, made the event well-nigh impossible to avoid. That's one chain of events they drum into us these days to encourage attention to even the littlest details.

Well, since you already have redundant hard drives, why not post redundant messages as well? _________________ I'm a nut, but there are those who appreciate me for it. |

More than likely this will be happening early Monday, between 8am and 1pm EST.
In other news... a sneek-peek at things that may be coming either late this year or early next year...

One question that has been niggling me. How are you able to afford all this, Whip? _________________ ~Sammie the Pizza Box

I have no life.
J/K. A good portion does come from my own funds, but I do get very helpful donations from very generous friends and visitors to the site.
This server that is planned to be built will not be available until, most likely, Q1 2004. By then prices will drop on the hardware needed to build it. The current server will be sold shortly afterwards to help with some of the funds.
Mind you this is all in the pre-planning stage. It may not go through at all. It depends on several somewhat obvious factors. |

Very schweeet.
The current box is a 1U Enlight. It doesn't have the expandability that this has, like more room for PCI(-X) cards, more RAM, 2 Xeon CPU's, etc. I'm also looking into getting the SATA version, which will allow me to plug in several drives at near the cost of IDE, but with a faster interface.
It all depends on how things go in the next few months, especially with the bandwidth problems we've had. Like I mentioned, I'm keeping my options open as far as ISP's are concerned, though I would prefer if the box was close so I could work on it. |

Well, I'm going to close this topic. The drive upgrade was a complete success. Went even smoother than I expected. The only thing that took a lot of attention was the mirror rebuilding on the new drive.
Kewl beans. I'll be shipping off the bum drive to WD once I purge it. |
