To all of my fellow veterans that are serving, those that have served and to those brave individuals that have given the ultimate sacrifice, I thank you all for your service.

June 1968:
I graduated from high school and the next morning I went to the Navy Recruiter's office and signed up. Most my peers were protesting and burning their draft cards.
I was declined when I went for the medical. Next I tried the Air Force but again failed the medical (I had spinal surgery). Next I got the "letter from Uncle Sam". Again failed the medical. If I had made it I believe I would have been carrier military. |

A second cousin of mine had bunion surgery on both of her feet before she was sixteen. When she went to join up after high school, The Marines turned her down, then the Army. I was already in the Air Force at that time so I encouraged her to try the Air Force. They had no issues with her surgeries. She turned out to be a lifer, putting in twenty-six years before being forcibly retired as an E-8 Senior Master Sergeant. The USAF decided her MOS was too top-heavy, so they were thinning the herd.
Just thinking back, it's been over forty years since I wrote that check, payable to Uncle Sam, for any amount, including my life, if need be.

You didn't hang out at the bowling alley? The BX at Nellis AFB was okay, just not as nice as the one that was at Lowrey AFB, Denver. At both bases, the bowling alley was the place to hang out.
BTW, Thank you for your service, Kit Fox.

I haven't done anything yet to garner a thank you heh.
I haven't done too much exploring around here. Mainly the PX, and a place called the Warrior Zone, which has pool tables, ping pong, board games, etc... Basically a place to relax a bit. _________________ Times change and so do people. |
