I think this is pretty much common knowledge. Win10 is not free. Not by a longshot.

I'll stay with Win7. It works and I can stop its spying ways. No reason to upgrade.

The next step will be where OEMs no longer allow you to disable the Safe Boot crap so you can install whatever OS you like. MS' Win10 guidelines already allow for this (unlike 8.1), so it is possible.

But then is Apple OS any better?

I know nothing about Apple stuff so have no basis to compare.

My question is this: stepping back and honestly observing, what can Win10 do for me that Win 7/8.1 cannot do?

-I don't have an XBox one, so I don't care about streaming to/from.
-I've already disabled the full screen icon view of the start menu in Win 8.1
-I don't play a lot of the super-high graphics intensive games that will make use of the new features of DirectX 12.

For the time being, I don't see a compelling need to upgrade.

Good to see you chiming in, Teric.

I'll go with Teric on this. I'm not in need of the 'advantages' that Win10 could possibly give me. I have heard so much wrong with this latest iteration of Windows that I have decided that Win7 works just fine for me.

Upgrading for the sake of upgrading makes no sense. As they say, "If it ain't broke don't fix it."

Just my $0.02 USD worth. YMMV.

About the only thing that might eventually matter in Win10 would be DirectX 12, which won't get backported to Win8. Given Win10's rough start, I expect it will be a while before there are any DX12-only games out there.

Someone should throw a massive wad of money at the ReactOS project. Maybe then it'd reach a point where you could use it.
