Yep, going on eight years now, since that big day in June when I opened my eyes and asked the nurse "Is it alright now? Is it as it should be?" and she smiled and looked at me and said in a very kind voice, "yes ... now everything is as it should be".
Eight years. Feels like a lifetime sometimes. But going stronger than ever, I think is fair to say! |

Congratulations, filly. I can't say much more in terms of congratulatory words to convey my sense of happiness for you.
The first time I get to reply to one of these, since the last one had past when I first discovered you and everything you had done, all starting with purchasing AVC. So now I get to comment on this big event for you, and how, admittedly, it has come to shape my perception of you. Hopefully, this will be somewhat heartfelt and tactful. Of course, nothing I say will be of malicious intent. You know me too well to expect such from me.
I think it's fair of me to say that when I did actually find out that you had been repaired as you had been, I had to come to terms with that. I certainly didn't and don't have any poor opinions of transgender people, but I never expected that I would ever get to know one, let alone count one as one of my closest friends. The mind just doesn't account for such possibilities. But it's very easy to come to terms with, even more so, though I am saddened to admit it, when I read of the pain you had been through before the op. It almost moved me to tears, but the only time in recent history I can remember crying is when a certain ancient Roman vixen we all know got offed.
But I digress. Meeting you actually made me think about how I believe I should think about transgender people, as I had never been given real cause to do so before. I must say it's been quite an eye-opener meeting you, and not just because of the above. Other things, your gruff nature, your straight-to-the-point method of conversation, your political and religious views, all have made me question and come to terms with things about you, about other people and about myself and things around me as I enter my true adult years.
Because of, and in spite of, everything you are and everything you have shown me and taught me in just under a year, I can say from the bottom of my heart that it has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life getting you know you as I have, and I hope that with the passing of time, our friendship will last and stay strong.
You have my thanks, my congratulations, and my hopes for another good year, come what may.
All the best. Cobra out. _________________ "Without question, the greatest invention in the history of [fur]kind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza." — Dave Barry |

*still typing one-pawed*
So, do I wish my good friend a Happy Re-birthday? Happy New Birthday? Gah, it's confusing but I think you know what I mean.
*lifts a wee dram of Scotch in the general direction of Ireland*
"Many happy returns, Aslaug!"

Aslaug.....well, you know.
Words don't express friendship, respect, and admiration well enough.
Happy Birthday.

Heading to work in a few minutes in a foul mood. I hope the day picks up along the way.
At least I can say that being 8 years old involves being pissy for no good reason. |
