The truth remains to be seen. Preliminary reports indicate a positive response. _________________ Styx: "Oh sure like flaming a dragon going to do massive damage, brave challenge there Teric." |

XP was one that MS got right, as far as them getting this one right, I'm still waiting for when the squadron of pigs comes in for a landing before I buy. |

XP actually wasn't so bad. And 2000 was great. It only crashed on me three times in five years, and that was because of really crappy hardware.
On the other hand, it seems that 98 and Vista surely marred their reputation for good. Not to mention their aggressive and underhanded tactics. _________________ Hey, Sony... IT'S PAYBACK TIME!

I've been running Linux for years, and I see no reason to change that.
My wife's computer has Vista, and she hasn't had any major complaints. OTOH, when I've had to do maintenance and set-up tasks, it has been an absolutely, utterly, horrendous PITA.
Macro$loth has completely reconfigured the menus, and many of the tasks and options I use the most are buried multiple layers deep in the menus, if you can find them at all. One was, iirc, eight layers deep in the menus. Another seems to have been completely removed.
Is there any way to get rid of all the maddening and frustrating eye candy and get some simple, functional control panels back?
From what I've read about Win7, I can see no reason, at least for me, to get it.
The only reason I'd even think about it is that I use two programs (rarely, but I do use them) that do not come in any other flavor.
I keep hoping that WinE will be able to run those programs. It hasn't managed to yet, but I keep hoping. _________________ Nicolai

I'll probably wait, like usual, for the first service pack so that I know that they've at least got Most of the bugs worked out. _________________ Perspective is a matter of how much you know about another person. Mine usually starts with one well worn set of mocs. Take a trip? |

You do realize that windows 7 IS a service pack on vista. Under the hood windows 7 is vista, they just tried to fix some of the bugs. _________________ "Never underestimate the stupidity of people." |

I've been running Windows 7 RC, and while I haven't really pushed it, so far it's been fine for me. A little faster than Vista maybe, not much. Still takes a long time to load everything when it gets to the desktop. So far compatible with all my stuff. _________________ Changed my name to Kantaro. |

Yea, that's one of the main problems I run into with Vista is that a lot of the programs *cough*games*cough* that I like to run just don't work with Vista.
And I miss my Starfleet Command Orion Pirates... _________________ Perspective is a matter of how much you know about another person. Mine usually starts with one well worn set of mocs. Take a trip? |

Windows 3.5? Do you mean 3.0? Never saw 3.5 then there was3.1, 3.11 & 3.11 for work groups. There was the original NT then NT4 plus the others you mentioned. _________________ "Political Correctness is tyranny with manners." Charlton Heston

Here's what I was able to find out real quick by checking Microsoft's own website on Windows 7: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/features/windows-xp-mode.aspx |
