I have always loved the F-4 Phantom II, along with the best fighter bomber of WWII the F4U Corsair and the B-17 Flying Fortress, as for jet bombers the B-52 Stratofortress is the best... _________________ Due Too Budget Cuts The Light At The End Of The Tunnel Has Been Turned Off.

Well, if fantasy aircraft were real, I'd have to go with the Incom T-65 "X-Wing" Space Superiority Fighter.

Got a project in the works. All I need to find is a T-38 that is privately owned and is hangered locally. _________________ Beware the light at the end of the tunnel, just might be the headlights of my speeding truck. =0.0.=

You know, D.F., there aren't too many T-38 "White Mice" in private hands. there is one that's in So Cal (I think) that's made from multiple salvaged ships. Supposedly it's the best example of T-38's anywhere. go figure.

Kel -
Isn't the A/C you're referring to the one that flew in the closing sequence of the "Dragnet" movie with Dan Aykroyd? I've seen that out here at Mojave Airport near the Palmdale AF Plant now and again. Not sure if it's based there or not, but it could be. They have lots of ramp space and quite a few empty hangars there.
Somebody takes good care of that little ship ...

Actually, that T-38 belongs to a private owner, but the company that refurbished it was, at last look, still in business and has more of the lovely critters for sale. Including (sigh)a nice T-38B that is similar in many ways to the mods Stripes One is described as having. Hope is there. Now,where did I put that lottery ticket.

Meh, most of what remained after taxes from any lottery I won would go toward paying off bills, finishing up the work on my house, and possibly savings.... _________________ Independent Business Owner ... Ask me, if interested in learning more.

I know of 15(!) F5 jet fighters for sale...
With weapons...
8 x F5b and 7 x F5a. The last of them flew about 18months ago, the engines have been coated with preservative oils, and they're rolled out of the hangars every month or so, to avoid the wheels turning square...
(It is expected to take between 1week and 3 months to make each one airworthy again, depending on how many parts have gone past it's date. The airframes is considered to have half their lifespan left.)
A couple of USAF Colonels who testflew two of them in 2005 considered them the best kept F5s in the world.
Price?
A about $10Million, in total...
You can examine the merchandise at Rygge Airbase here in Norway.
Unfortunately, unless you can get permission from the USAF, there's no use even bothering to put in a bid.
(Removing the weapons, missile racks and associated electronics to turn it into a 'civillian' is considered too expensive)
Also, some of the planes belonged to thenow defunct RNoAF 336 squadron
(Was this the paintscheme that inspired Stripes 1/2? )
And yes, the one with the paintscheme seen in the link IS among the ones for sale...
If you want big, though, they have 5 old C-130 lined up for sale in Arizona. Expect to pay about $10Million each.
They're old, but they got new wings just 2 years ago.
(The wings and work cost around $7M on each, so the the rest of the aircrafts is almost for free) _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

Actually, the "Stripes" pattern design is my own creation, inspired only by the stripy pattern of a tiger, and created on a blank T-38 pic in MS (ugh!) Paint. Like this pattern, though, more tigery. I was trying to fit the aircraft contours, so as not to give the paint shop fits.

You must admit, thouh, that it's a heckuva paintjob...
Anyway, the aircraft may end up in America, as Calspan Corporation(weapons company) want them as testbeds for new weapons.
Three of them have already been used in that role during the development of the new Norwegian Naval Strike Missile that's replacing the old Penguins.
Did you know that it's possible to slide backwards with these during aerobatics?
One of the reasons is that it doesn't have the same limiters in the controls as more modern planes like the F-16. Of course, that also means there's nothing to stop you ripping the wings off, either, if you're careless... _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

BTW, saw in te news that Edwards AFB (The flight test center, most likely) lost a T-38 this week. One crew was a fatality, the other badly injured. My condolences go out to them and their families.
