Bit of free backstory for y'all. Corrie, as a pilot for Old North, has flown both insect supression spray missions for the St.Regis forest folks, and fire fighting missions. She'd be right at home in an old Huey, and heck, chopper pilots get nosebleeds at altitudes above five hundred feet anyway. Fifty feet would suit her fine.
Also folks, you've all mentioned several of a helicopter's possible missions, but don't forget sightseeing, air taxi, and news and or traffic reporting, as well as a photography platform.

The problem with traffic/news reporting is that these are typically 'short' missions at fixed times(rush-hour reporting... )
It means that the craft needs to be available at fixed times every workday. That limits the missions it can take during the day.
Cropdusting is 'less time critical'...
Sightseeing missions depends on what kinds of sights are in the vicinity.
(Niagara falls looks good from the air, and Las Vegas by night, also. 'Upper Podunk' and a waste treatment plant is only nice in zero-visibility fog, though... ) _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

<laughs> Well said, Anthony.
Too, sightseeing depends greatly on one's ability to see the sights, difficult in soCal where visibility is often reduced to less than half a mile in our own curious mix of haze, smoke, fog, and pollutants.
Maybe that's why those chopper guys (and gals) fly so low? So they can maintain visual contact with the roads or railroads...?
On the other paw, I'll bet any fur with a functional nose would have no trouble at all finding the wastewater treatment plants in zero-zero visibility.

Not the current chapter I'm working on,which will concentrate on Corrie's first visit to Kentucky, but possibly the next one. Alex is due for a postponed drill weekend. Jenna and Jack's wedding is still a couple of chapters away.

*sneaky foxxie hits 'refresh'*
Seems we're into a new month, and thankfully the last one of this bloody year.
For me this has been the 'Year From Hell' .. for many reasons I won't go into here.
I'm looking forward to 2009 for many reasons, and I hope that not only will there be a spectacular new chapter from OBA, but news from the missing Author as well..
I hope this upcoming year is better for not just myself, but everyone, and that the trials we've been in the past have only made us stronger for surviving them.
P.S. : If anyone can contact Mr. Bruner, tell him that he is in my thoughts, and that I wish him well. _________________ Independent Business Owner ... Ask me, if interested in learning more.

Hey, TM, I noticed you managed to not answer the question about when Alex's wedding will be.
'Spect you'll ignore my note, too. Or, at least, not give a definitive answer.
You're just being OBA, after all.
(Do I get to play proofer on this one?)

Sorry to be so quiet, folks. Been busy around the holidays, and now we're into the January doldrums, and I've hit a dry spell creatively. So, while I recharge my batteries and such, I'll be on hiatus for a little while. The next chapter is in progress, but it's going very slow. I'll give a heads-up when I'm back on track.

Wanders in and notices the dust in the thread, then goes in search of something that could be used as a broom... _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

*wanders by and notices the ice still coating the keyboard*
*goes searching for something to melt the ice*
Hope you've thawed out up there, my friend, and that there was no major damage from that ice storm.
