I had a decent time, spent most of it working the hole day... I don't mind it, to me if I am not spending any holidays with family and friends, then it really doesn't count as a holiday for me.

Yes, I do enjoy the 4th a lot... but I am mostly alone. I support this great country and its declaration of independence but not of its current government and what it has become to stand for.

I spent the day with friends set off some fireworks and played games it was fun. I love this country even though we haven't had a decent president since FDR.

Let's not argue over simple happy greeting. We disagree as deeply as about our past presidents as more current ones. In a recent survey of worst/best presidents of the twentieth century, where the respondents were professional historians, Reagan and FDR finished 1-2... on both the "best" and "worst" lists.

Had fun, but was very fatigued the whole weekend (some sickness or other). Didn't get to/want to see fireworks, but sat & played card games with the wife/neighbors while the boom-booms were going on in the distance.

Slept most of saturday/sunday, finally feel some energy today.

My father purchased a whole bunch (about 200) mortar shells. They are the closest thing to professional grade fireworks, that is still legal for civilian purchase. Between me and my father, we launched all of em for a party he organized. There was a good fifty or so folks there.
And well, just like last year.... we did have one ground explosion... I have been trying to convince my father to get the stuff together to build proper metal launch tubes... but he still uses the heavy cardboard tubes that come with the mortar shells. We did have one blowout of course, and the shell exploded about 10-20ft off the ground. No injuries, just some short term ringing in my right ear Smile
I still wouldn't give up the opportunity to blow stuff up, I really do enjoy it.

Watched fireworks at Six Flags... really cool. Then came home and tried to sleep while my neighbors set off fireworks around midnight-ish. Evil or Very Mad

We sat on the hill behind our apt leading to the lake and had a feeling of what it's like to be in a warring country. There were two sets of people setting off fireworks to our left on the apt grounds, one on our right on the other side of trees, another on the right and forward aways, near the end of that peninsula, another on the left and forward, one behind us a little way away, at least 3 or 4 across the lake. Also every so often hearing "thunder" from the big Nashville show, culminating with the sky over in the Nashville area flashing (trees and distance kept us from seeing the actual show) and a constant rumble like angry thunder for a few minutes straight.
We were surrounded by explosions and bright flashes of light. In other words, rather interesting and pretty. Smile

We shot stuff off both the 4th and 5th, and we ended up in a contest to see who made the most noise with the same group of people each night. They got the prize for most noise as they aparently had a good supply of the multy tube artillary luanchers and we had one shot hand reloads. However it got real interesting on the 5th when one of theirs detonated on the ground instead of shooting up then detonating. Judging from th whoops and hollers and lack of emergency responce I'd have to say no one was hurt and nothing caught on fire. All in all it was an interesting 4th.
