I'm looking for free ring tones without a lot of BS or memberships, if anyone knows of any sites I can get them with a minimum of fuss it would be much appreciated.

try mobile9, google it to be sure but i think its just www.mobile9.com they've got quite an array of riingtones and other things.

There are categories to suit each mobile. just click on downloads if memory serves and choose your ringtone format e.g. midi, MP3, realtone etc

I find it surprising that the ringtone business is still that big. Most cellphones I know can take any mp3 and/or midi file and use it as ringtone. Especially with mp3 it requires a minimum if knowledge to get exactly the ringtone you want.
