i've been drawing alot more lately...alot..more.. and i think its time i upgraded some of my supplies.. and move from just graphite into ink, but when i went shopping for some pens, there were...what seemed like hundreds of different brands..

prismacolor
faber-castell
copic.

...and many others i can't even remember. i remember hearing things about prismacolor, both good and bad. faber-castell has this lovely four pack of black pens with varying nibs.. and not a bad price. but really i have no idea what i should be looking for, and am not fond of wasting money right yet..seeing as how its rather hard to come across at the moment.

so..calling all artists.. what should i be looking for next time i gather the courage to wander into the art supply store? and.. just for the hell of it, what would you recommend a beginning artist pick up for their suplpy kit?

Hey Oji, here's what I use.

A biro is a good start, prefably a branded one like BIC or Staedtler. Free ones can be just as good! You can easily vary line weights with them and they function very much like a pencil, except you can't rub out.

A couple of different thicknesses of fineliner. Make sure there is at least a size difference between them, ie 0.1, 0.3, 0.5 etc. If they are too close together there is no noticable difference.

As far as colouring goes, I tend to use my computer so I can't offer any advice on this one.

Check out my www link below for some egs of my stuff.
