|

Greetings!
One of my more obnoxious readers asked a rather difficult question:
What does a Fang fighter look like?
Well?
Anyone up to the challenge?
Nope... No prizes for best suggestion...
And please note, I'm a Sci-fi buff, so knows how X-wings, A-wings, Y-wings, Tie fighters/bombers/interceptors, snow-speeders, Fury's(B5), the last starfighter and a lot of other craft look like...
(Read: Don't copy, please... )
And PLEASE note, whoever tries to use the daft craft from 'Independence Day' will meet with an unfortunate accident in a dark alley... _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

I'll see what I can do but I can't promise anything and I have a few questions first regarding the technology. For example, do they have some kind of anti-gravity or repulsor technology, meaning can they float in mid air or do they need aerodynamics to stay airborne. What kind of engines do they have? Are they aero/space fighters or pure aero fighters.
I'm aware that most of this info can be found in the stories but I don't feel like searching for it now
BTW: I'll make the drawings either by paw or with Autosketch, meaning they will be schematics, no 3d pic. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Heh, get with me privately and let's work this one together, I think I've got a fair background for this kind of thing as well as some experience (Darhel courier and the Terran frigate conversion among others).
(added) I went back and re-read Anthony's first chapter, I've got a few ideas. When he answers your questions, we can work in detail.
BTW, Anthony, does the Fang fighter use reaction propulsion (i.e. soemthign with an exhaust) or other means? It obviously has some mechanism which allows it to hover based on your first chapter.
Thoughtfully,

sure, why not. Should be interesting to work with somebody who actually knows something about the matter _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

One of these days I'll remember my password and manage to log on at home...
Anyway, I just wanted to say that there's a few clues on technology in Rrsh'Dhana's Diary...
Remember, she FLEW one of them.
Yes, i'll admit it, I started this topic to make you all reread the story...
(But it's also true that one of my readers asked the question) |

Yep, there are a few clues and between them and what's in chapter one, I do have a few ideas. It's a pleasure to reread so I can't really complain
Anyway, I'll have to start sketching on this one, got a few ideas already - inspired by a few things I picked up in a class this week.
Thoughtfully,

I already have something in mind too but it may be too Kilrathi inspired. I have to re-read the Diary first and hope to find a few hints on general design. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Kilrathi?
Don't say you played that awful space-combat game?
(Or any of the sequels)
Fact is, the only Space-combat game that's worth playing is X-Wing!
I'm deadly with an A-wing.... _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

Well, well, well, I like the X-Wing series much better than Wing Commander but Wing Commander 1 and 2 were great in my opinion. The following parts weren't so good, especially 3 (the Kilrathi looked so stupid. They only topped that in the movie) but 4 and 5 are decent games.
And I love the design of the Kilrathi fighters.
On a side note: I don't like the A-Wing. Too fragil. Once the shields are down it can't stand more damage than a TIE-Fighter. From the Rebel/New Republic ships my favorite is the B-Wing but I much prefur the Imperial fighters. They are much more agil. and of course, nothing can beat the Defender _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

So, it can't take too many hits, but...
First you have to HIT it...
That little thing maneuvers so well that it probably breaks a few natural laws...
The only real gripe I have with it is the pinhead type concussion missiles.
If I could trade them for just 3 or 4 REAL missiles...
As for HOW good it is...
I can nail a computerbased 'Top Ace' flying an X-wing in less than 30 seconds... (I take a little time first to make certain the weapons are fully charged )
The Y-wing lasts a few seconds more because it's so bl**dy solid.
Taking out half a dozen black eggshells isn't even going to make me break into a sweat...
(Interceptors are a bit more fun, though |

I prefur the TIEs for the same reason

Very true. However, don't expect to hit a TIE with a proton torpedo. They are far too slow for that.

Bah, the computer pilots are easy to beat. You got X-Wing Alliance? If yes, tell me when and where _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Sorry to disappoint you, but..
1. I only have X-Wing and it's installed on my eCS(OS/2 V4.5) PC at home....
2. The only net connection I have there is my GSM phone...
(Expensive....)
3. My boss would probably go spare if I installed such a game on one of the PC's in the office... (He has already banned my PDA... )
4. I won't drag that bl**dy heavy piece of custom hardware over to the office because it might cause the M$ SMS system to die. (as if anyone would notice the difference between glacially slow and dead)
5. I only play against the computer because I don't have anyone else to beat...
