Playlists are fun. They help a lot of writers get in the right mood and I'm no different.
However, what *I* listen to, to write, may not necessarily be the same things YOU would listen to for these stories.
So...what I am going to do is toss out a couple of questions:
1: What music would you suggest for AVC and Transitions 1-2 respectively, in order to set the mood in general?
2: If the characters involved were to have theme-songs, what would they be?
I'm not asking merely out of vanity. I'm asking because it may give me ideas for music I can listen to myself, when writing. I would also really like to make a sub-section on my page where I'd put up some of the suggestions and what I do listen to myself. Call it a mental excersise if you will...
I hope you'll play along. |

I don't know really, but I heard a song not too long ago that kindof reminded me of Gabrielle.
It didn't really hit her personality dead on or anything, but thats the first character that popped into my head when I heard it. It just has...well, alot of attitude.
Its called "Everyone Is Wrong" by Donnas. I have it on my hard drive, just have to go fish it out. ^_^; _________________ "I'm not sure yet, but it'll involve a bucket of sour cream, three carrots, an architect lamp and a lump hammer. Possibly a fish." -Jean LeBrun, Transitions Chapter 22
You have to admit, that is funny....and puts soooo many pictures in your head. |

Both are good suggestions. I keep thinking of 'Good girls go to heaven, Bad girls go everywhere', when I think of Gabrielle. She even said that, back in T1 while having lunch with Zig Zag.
Tigermark suggested Bonnie Tyler's 'If You Were A Woman (And I Was A Man)' for the general soundtrack...good choice too.
Come on people, let me see some more suggestions. This is going to help me get in the mood when I get these songs together... |

For Gabby I would have to say the Meatloaf would fit her. Another one that would be good for Estiban and Jean would be I would do anything for love(But I won't do that) also by Meatloaf from the Bat out of Hell II Back into Hell album. A good one for Jean only would be Home by Now-No Matter What. For Estiban You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth(A Hot Summers Night). _________________ Beware the light at the end of the tunnel, just might be the headlights of my speeding truck. =0.0.=

Well, I'd have to say "I like the way you Move" by Bodyrockers would suit a peering round the studio door type situation...dunno why, so don't ask me....
Oh, and either "Killing in the Name" by Rage Against The Machine or "Break Stuff" by Limp Bizkit for Darke's theme...if you wonder why, just go give them a listen... _________________ A quote from my mother: "You know, over the past few years, you've -really- developed a prickly exterior..." |

I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier (probably cause I just picked up the music video for the song) but I think for Gabrielle I would have to go with "Minority" by Green Day. Mostly for the line "Down with the moral majority". On second thought this might be a more fitting song fo Zig Zag
There is a part in Transitions which fits another Green Day song, the part of the story where Jean is writing the lters to all of her friends just in case she dies durring her operation, for that part of the story I would have to go with "Good Riddance(Time of Your Life)". The song is about remembering to think of the good times in life, and no matter what happens good things have happened to. This is the closing song at every Green Day show. _________________ Bad moods are like hangovers, they eventually go away. - A. Sigurd Olson |

Well well...I'm going to revive this age-old thread and make a couple of suggestions.
Leo's new title song seriously should be that time-honored classic by Dire Straits, 'Brothers in Arms'...
But the one that struck me was that I found one for Emma. It's by a Dutch band called 'Within Temptation'. I was sitting here, listening to a song of theirs called 'Angels' (if you want to check this for yourselves, look it up on youtube or something). The text in that song slammed into me like an eighteen-wheeler. I just realized that was Emma's song if any -ever- was.
Try listening to it...you'll see what I mean. |

"All I Want Is Everything" for Lizzy... NOT.
"Ready, Willing And Able" by Lari White, for Yohni, way back in T1.
And "You're Still The One I Want" for T3. Remains to be seen for which characters... _________________ I'm a nut, but there are those who appreciate me for it. |

VnV Nation - Joy
They've made a German version called 'Freude' too. But since most here don't speak German, I'll include the English lyrics for the English version and let people judge if this is not Aslaug to a tee...
'Have I no control, is my soul not mine?
Am I not just man, destiny defined?
Never to be ruled nor held to heel.
Not heaven or hell just the land between.
Am I not man, does my heart not bleed?
No Lord, no God, no hate, no pity, no pain, just ME.
Comprehend and countermand.
Synchronous guidance. I choose my way.
Never to be ruled nor held to heel.
Not heaven or hell just the land between.
And am I not man?
So why do I love when I still feel pain?
When does it end, when is my work done?
Why am I lone and why do I feel that
I carry a sword through a battlefield?
So why do I love when I still feel pain?
When does it end, when is my work done?
Why do I fight and why do I feel that
I carry a sword, that I carry a sword?
Like the path to heaven or the road to hell
our choice is our own consequences bind.
We are the kings of wisdom, the fools as well.
We are the gods to many, we are humble men.
We who build great works just to break them down.
We who make our rules so we never fail.' |

This one fits Aslaug too...especially as she grows increasingly dark as a character. This song is made by a band from Aalborg, near where I live, called 'Mercenary'. It's called 'My world is ending'. The lyrics are great and the tune is perfect for her. It almost plays like the first verse would be her speaking...and the second would be Surt...speaking to her in return.
Incidentally, the song can be looked up at YouTube, should anyone wish to.
My World is Ending
Take all that I believe in
Give it a simple name
Reveal all my secrets
And drown me in the shame
I will redefine
The questions of the night
And I will purify
Forgiveness and the light
It's falling into place
In clear perspective
My deepest tragedy
The world is ending
So now you speak to me in perfect silence
Don't take my soul away
My world is ending
Don't ever speak to me
To find your salvation
I know it's hard to be
And exist in culmination
I'll take your soul away
Destroy it and molest you
And I will set you free
Don't give your heart to me
It's falling into place
In clear perspective
My deepest tragedy
The world is ending
So now you speak to me in perfect silence
Don't take my soul away
My world is ending
The world is ending
My world descending |

Here's the link if anyone's interested.
And may I just add that Mercenarys newest album, The Hours That Remain, is teh awesom-e. Buy it on iTunes or something, you won't regret it. Plus they're all really great blokes, and I know them relatively well (I auditioned for the leadsingers band back in 1998). Yay! Go me! _________________ The grass is always greener on the other side. Once you get there, you realize the grass is kind of a bitch too.
