It gives me great pleasure to announce that, while I haven't found a direct position yet, I have accepted a contract engineering position at Lockheed-Martin's Ft. Worth facility. This at least gets cash coming in again and the rate's quite good ($40/hour) and, after 30 days there, there's a signing bonus of $1000. I can live with these.
In the meantime, Monday, before I got this offer, I had very good interviews with high level managers from several Lockheed-Martin divisions and something permanent may well come from that.
In any case, I start my new job this coming Friday. It's a 1.5 - 2 hour commute each way, but, again, I can live with that - I've had longer commutes by public transit in LA.

Heh, it can still happen to weasels if they're careless on the ramp - but that's a story we don't want to go into here.
The job looks rather interesting and it appears I'll be learning some new tools.
