Just to let you know, I got some computer problems so I probably won't be online for the next day or even days. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Well, things are not looking good on the computer front.
Yesterday the dreaded accident finally happened: I spilled soda over my PowerBook. It wasn't much and I was able to power it down and after cleaning it as best as I could without actually taking it apart it is actually still running. However, something seems to have damaged the monitor or some connection for it acts strangely now. Not only does it flicker and stuff when I boot it (which it had not done before) after a few minutes of using it also starts to turn on and off seemingly at random until it freezes at screen off, blacklight on the the computer not reaxcting to anything I do.
I now have 3 or so options. The first is taking it fully apart and try to clean it out. The second it taking it to the local Apple Center and have them do it. The advantage would be that I know it's done by professionals and it will run again afterwards. However, not only would be without it for a few day, it would also cost me.
The thrid, and most unlikely option is getting a new Powerbook. However, I don't think I'll do that. As tempting the thought of having a Superdrive is my PowerBook is not so much out of date to need replacement. Plus, it would be terribly costly. And I grew kinda attached to my PowerBook and would rather keep it.
If anybody has any adivce as to what I could/should do, I'd gladly hear them.
Oh, and Zak, I'm sorry that I mistreated the PowerBook so badly... I really didn't mean to. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Because of the aforementioned computer problems I probably won't be able to make it for the middle of the month chapter post.
Sorry about that. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Well, tomorrow in the early hours of the morning we are leaving for Vienna. We are gonna visit some relatives over the holiday weekend and, to make things complete, I get to go the the Gaming Day (a Warhammer Convention) on Sunday
The downside of that is that I probably won't be online much until Monday. I do not know if I will get a chance to go online at all.
Just in case I don't, have a great weekend everyone and I'll see you again on Monday. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Well, so much for the relaxing lifestyle... as of tomorrow I am officially employed. Gonna work for a company that makes sanding paper of all kinds. For now just for a limited time, but better than nothing.
Of course, that means that I will have MUCH less free time on my paws... but at least I am gonna earn money and it seems likely that I will even make it to MFM again this year.
We will see. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Hey Ty, good to hear you're employed again. Work sucks, but money is good. As far as the power book goes...and I am sorry to hear about the problems you got...I would advise you take it and get it looked at. Yes you'll be with out it for a bit, yes you'll have to shell out some money; on the other hand, it'll be fixed, and you know it'll work. Good luck with getting to MFM.

First, thanks, Ghostwolf.
Second, I took the Powerbook to get it looking at and I have been out with it for a month now. The result? Repair would cost over 800 Euros so I am going to get a new one. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

It's a 12" G4 with 867 MHz (or so, I am not exactly sure). _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Hm...
that's a bit more modern than I have any experience with...
(My most modern one is a Powerbook 5300... The others are a 140, a 145b and just today I got hold of a 160 together with a StyleWriter... )
Anyway...
I assume that it's the motherboard which is dead, or as close to it as to make no difference...
Have you considered getting hold of an similar machine and just transfering the HDD to that?
If you check online auctions you probably won't have any problems finding one with a dead drive or cracked screen.
Transplanting parts isn't that difficult, really.
It's just something we in the business pretend to be difficult.
(It's called job security)
If not, there may be someone out there who would like to buy the remains of your machine to repair his... _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

That's what I am most likely going to try. Otherwise this is a good excuse to get a new top of the line machine.
Thanks for the advice. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species
