It's pricy, but it seems to be able to ANYTHING. It's called Animation Master. This will lead to one of the most famous clips made with this program, back in 1999. Click here to view the demo video. I'm now saving up to buy this software. _________________ Dan Cougar

Um, animation studio doesn't seem to be that good in my own opinion. Even though there are a number of animation suites, I suggest using Maya or 3D Studio Max. The first is extensively used in the gaming and movie industry. Heck, Epic even gave out the PLE (Personal learning edition, which is also free to download) with Unreal Tournament 2004 in some editions.
Here's a good example of the stuff you can do with the free version that Alias Wavefront offers of Maya. (www.alias.com) _________________ Big... Shinee.. Red.. Button!!!

Typical Maya 6.5 Unlimited nodeblock license for Linux just under $8,000
3dsmax 7 maybe over $2,500. Software capabilities about roughly 20x that of animation studio/ animation master. Don't bother. Most a3D animation content is created with either max or Maya.
and this is hearing it from someone in training

Maya running on SGI machines was used to do all the 3D structures in Futurama, naturally all of these used cell shading. _________________ Big... Shinee.. Red.. Button!!!

It's a professional program. But the "Personal Learning Edition" is available for free, and it's just as capable as the standard version. _________________ Big... Shinee.. Red.. Button!!!

The PLE is all fine and well but it caps the resolution (the last time I checked it was 640x480) and stamps and hideous "MAYA PLE EDITION FOR LEARNING ONLY!!" watermark all over your efforts. _________________ Sphelx Lizard

Try Blender3D (www.blender3d.com) it's free, it runs on anything, and should be good for starting out and messing around, since on the site they have video tutorials. _________________ Big... Shinee.. Red.. Button!!!

I started on Blender about 4 years ago or so, I've long since left it and gone onto MAX and Maya. But not the PLE. _________________ Sphelx Lizard

the best one is just basically a standard mesh with a photo based texture put on it for the face. It's pretty standard stuff today in most modelling programs. As for modelling it's interesting as a program. But it lacks in rendering and plugins from what I know. In 3D Studio Max or Maya, if you don't like how the standard render code is working, you can modify it yourself, or download or buy a separate render plugin (such as Pixar's Renderman). It's more flexible and these two programs are literally the industry standard in graphics and animation.
Heck all the graphics done in "The Lord of the Rings trilogy" were done and rendered in Maya, and spliced in with Apple's Shake software. Another example is "Sky Captian and the World of Tomorrow". Only the actors were real (well along with the props), everything else was rendered in Maya. _________________ Big... Shinee.. Red.. Button!!!

Me, I like to use lightwave 3d 7.
7 because it's the only one I have.
I've tried maya and 3d max.
I still have the 30 day 3d max demo CD.
I just don't care for the icon interface.
Words for me.
I also like how lightwave is seperated into two programs.
Takes up less space on your ram.
But both programs can work with each other at the same time fairly well. |
