Thanks Ghostwolf and you too Maxx but it's really no that much of a big deal. As I said, Necrons are so easy to paint, it's not even funny anymore. If I take all the days I have worked on them together it took me between 2 and 4 weeks to paint them with only a few hours of work each day.

On a side note, I have played about 10 games with them so far and still have to win one. Stupid Phase Out...

First, a disclaimer before any of you gets a shock.

No, I have NOT started an Ogre army for Warhammer Fantasy. However, I DO have a single Ogre. On the 24th last month the guys at the Games Workshop in Hannover were giving out the necessary bits to build one to good customers and I got one. Over the last weeks I put most of my painting efforts to get that thing done and right now it is at the Games Workshop on display.

For those of you who will not get to go to Hannover in the next weeks, I took some photos.

That is the guy. The skin was done with a layer of Kommando Khaki over a basecoat of Graveyard Earth. To that I applied a wash with watered down Brown Ink and drybrushed the whole thing with bleached bone. I kinda like the effect because it doesn't have this greenish tan that the GW orges have.

The where done simply by a wash of undiluted Brown Ink on Graveyard Earth. For the metal parts I used Mithril Silver and washed it with Black, Brown and occasional Red Ink. Very simple but looks great.

Frontal view. He looks kinda pissed, doesn't he? I'll explain why later. What you can see nicely in this one is one of the two small mods I made. That thing hanging from his right ear is a hand weapon from a Skink. I had a lot of these left from the Skinks I build for my Lizardmen Army so I just clipped the normal earring away and glued that in place. Turned out better than I dared to hope.

This Ogre has obviously been in a fight recently, if the blood in his fist thingy (forgot how it is called) is any indication. Also, you have the first good look at his Gnoblar. For those of you who are not net familiar with the new Ogres, the Gnoblars are a race of small but sneaky greenish guys related to Goblins. To the Ogres they are something between servants, pets and food. This one carries the food for his 'owner'.

Profile. Yes, these guys are fat. To ogres Bigger is Better, especially when it comes to the size of their gut. And ogre with a big, fat belly is rich because he obviously ate a lot. By the way, the red stripes on his shouder and hsi face are warpaint.

Notice the butcher knife thing behind him. This ogre was about to take a meal and someone disturbed him. That's why he looks so P-Oed.

Backview from another angle. You can see the small hands of the poor Gnoblar, barely able to carry that huge back full of... edible stuff (what for an Ogre is about everything). You can also see the second conversion I made. Can you guess what is is? Wink

Just like a had a lot of Skink hand weapons left so I have a lot of Skink shields left. This Ogre must have thought they look nice because he put one on his shoulder. Ogres often have rather crude piercings so it just a matter of applying some green stuff to get this to look as if the shield is pierced to his shoulder. I really like how this came out.

And last but not least, a top view. No idea why I made this photo... thought it looked nice Smile

That's my ogre. I hope it is up to the painting standart. It certainly is one of the most detailed painting works I have done so far.

Next Tuesday we (the ones who got the free ogres) will use them in some pit fight thing. Nobody knows the details but it seems like some 1 vs. 1 Ogre fighting. Maybe I'll win for a change Razz

Cool... It looked cool before the base was done, but it looks even better now! He does look mad, doesn't he? Wink

Thanks. I did my best.

Yeah. However, Games Workshop made sure that the ogres are NOT evil.

"They don’t want to eat you because they are evil. They want to eat you purely because they are hungry. It’s a food chain thing. It’s nothing personal."

--- Phill Kelly, Game Developer in charge of the Ogre Kingdoms.

Well, some news... nothing on the job thing yet but on Tuesday I went to fight in the Ogre Pit Fights, or Ogrelympics as we liked to call it. The rules (which were completely new, nothing to do with Warhammer Fantasy) were not too good and too dependant on lucks dice rolls but it was still fun. My ogre went KO in the 3rd round, which was a pretty good result from my point of view. For now my Orge is still on display at the Games Workshop.

Earlier today I made the first League Fight with my Necrons. It was only 500 points, which the Necrons aren't too good at but I actually managed to pull out a victory against the Imperial Guard, which outnumbered me 2:1, what is to expect with IG though Wink Unfortunately I couldn't make a single game because I needed to leave to help a friend. Hopefully next week.

And last but not least, about 20 minutes ago I ordered a 2000 point Tau fleet from Forgeworld. With a little luck it will arrive next week.

That's it for now.

Well, been silent on the Warhammer front... but not because I was lazy, oh no.

As some of you... well, actually only Pflarrian knows, I'm getting into Battlefleet Gothic, the deep space version of Warhammer 40,000. Over the last weeks I have been assembling and painting spaceship and now I am very pleased to present...

The Pant'Ra Patrol-Fleet

As some of you might recognize, it is a Tau fleet, compromised entirely of models by Games Workshop's sub-company Forge World who are known for their highly detailed models. Those who do recognize them now might scream at me what I am thinking, buying an entire fleet of Forge World models. Well, first of, these ships are the reason why I started Battlefleet Gothic in the first place. Games Workshop's own Tau ships, while nice models, just do not look like Tau ships to me. However, these do. And how much. I guess I feel in love with them. But it is not only that. After some calculation I came to realize that if I had gotten GW models I would have paid almost 100 Euros more for the fleet.

But enough about that, I guess you are more interested in more pics and I do not plan to disappoint you.

Side view of the fleet. It consists of

1 Custodian Carriership (Explorer in GW terms)
4 Emmisary Cruisers (Merchant)
4 Protector Heavy Cruisers (Hero)
9 Castellan Escort Ships (Defender)
11 Warden Gunships (Orca)

You might notice that there are 12 Warden's in the phots. I will explain that later.

We will take a closer look at each of them now.

This is the Mal'Coar, a Custodian class carrier and flag ship of the Pant'Ra fleet.

The Custodian is the biggest ship the Tau build themselves and it is mainly used for transportation of smaller ships. It has three 'gravimetic hooks' that it can use to carry Warden class gunships and vast hangars for smaller craft. As a carrier the Custodian is not quite as well armed as a battleship or even a cruiser but it is well protected and can take quite a punching. Plus, it can rely on the smaller ships it carries to defend it.

This is one of Pant'Ra's four Emmisary class cruisers. Like the Custodian they feature gravimetic hooks, only two of them through. However, thanks to their smaller size they are faster than the much heavier carrier and they carry more weapons as well, even if they are not quite as powerful.

As you can plainly see, Tau ships are much sleeker than the ships of most other races, showing that they actually understand what they are doing when they build a ship.

Here we have a Protector class heavy cruiser, the first real interstellar warship the Tau have designed.

It's huge wings are littered with turrets, showing nicely that unlike with Imperial ship the Tau can adjust all the weapons on their ships to fire frontally, what allows them to concentrate a lot of firepower. You don't want to go head on against a Tau fleet.

This now is a Castellan escort ship. They are small, not too heavily armed and not quite as armored as the bigger ships. However, they are faster and more manuevrable and they tend to shop up in much bigger numbers.

Here is one of the Warden class gunships. Significantly smaller than Castellans they are much faster and more agile. Yet, for their size they hold an impressive armament, what can be explained through the fact that these ships have no warp drive. The Tau are unable to build these engines in a small enough size and thus the Wardens have to rely on the Custodian and the Emmisary to carry them for star system to star system.

Now, the reason why I have 12 of them but the fleet only includes 11 is because I have 12 minis (they come in packs of 4) but only enough capital ships to carry 11 of them.

Lastly, these are Baracuda class fighters and Manta class bombers, the Tau's main small attack craft, launched from the Custodian and Protector's hangars. Interesting enough, the Mantas are actually planetay landing crafts, but they are fast and heavyly armed enough to fulfill their duty as bombers as well.

All in all this fleet is 2185 points in size and now completely painted and ready to spread the message of the Greater Good throughout the Galaxy Wink

I hope that I can have my first game with them next week.

Oh, I almost forgot. These last to pics are a tad too big to link to them properly so I attached them.

I hope the Pant'Ra Fleet meets general approval Smile

Wow, that is one massive, and massively well painted, fleet. Lookin' very good there Ty, neat and chrisp on the lines. You might could go back and do some highlighting to really make them snap....then again, they ARE beating on a large set of drums already. Hope you have a lot of fun with them, and more than a few wins.

Ghostwolf out...

Thanks, Ghostwolf.

The highlighting is a good idea. However, there is one major problem with it. I can't do it Sad

Well, the Tau are done so I turned to another project: The Eldar.

A few month ago, while I was bugging Leonato at his place in Nashville Pflarrian kindly sold his Eldar army to me. For those of you not familiar with Warhammer, the Eldar are best described as a sci-fi version of Elves.

In any case, A few weeks ago I managed to aquire even more Eldar thanks to Ebay and a few days ago I finally started painting them.

Attached to this post (because I am too lazy to upload and link to them Razz) you can find a photo of 5 Howling Banshees, female Eldar warriors known for their close combat skill. The stripes are the common element in my army's color theme, an idea I have to thank Pflarrian for. Otherwise all units will be differently colored.

Finished one of the Warp Spiders. Shiny, aren't they?

Finished the Warp Spider Exarch (see the attached photo) and started work on a Swooping Hawk. I expect I will have him done tomorrow, assuming that I get the time to do so. I have to go into the city to get some things done.

Oh, in the background you can see that I did some drybrushing on the Banshee's manes. Rather nice effect.

Over the weekend I won two Ebay auctions one for a 1500 point Eldar Fleet for Battlefleet Gothic an one for a Troupe of 10 Harlequins, rather old and very special kind of Eldar warriors which I have been dying to give a try. Hopefully both will arrive this week.

As I promised, a photo of the first Swooping Hawk, the Eldar's jump-troops.

I had to do some damage control on this one. First I had painted either wing's 'feathers' blue and white since white goes pretty well with this rather bright blue. However, the contrast to the rest of the mini which was dominated by the black undercoat and stripes was just too big. So I repainted the white parts back and while the color theme now has less variety it does look much better.

Hmmm... rather nice day. I went to the Games Workshop for my first proper Battlefleet Gothic game. 1200 points of my Tau against a Necron Fleet. Against all odds there where some ships of mine remaining on the battlefield at the end of the game and I still won Very Happy

That's because, since Necron ships are so insanely powerful you already get full victory points for them even if the ships are only damaged. My opponent failed a LOT of saves in the beginning of the battle and as such... well I won by points. That what counts Smile

Weeeh! More Battlefleet Gothic-y goodness. Thanks to Ebay I aquired an Eldar Fleet not too long ago and the first few of them are done Smile

In the attached photo you can see a single Shadow class cruiser (the big one) and parts of two squadrons of frigates, Hemlocks (the ones with the big guns in the foreground) and Nightshades (the ones in the background) respectively.

Just because I have nothing else to say, here some background.

The Eldar, thanks to their incredibly advanced technology, use massive sails to collect solar winds to power their advanced drive systems, making their ships incredibly fast an maneuverable, if a little dependant on nearby stars.

In game terms that means that Eldar can effectivly move 2 times per round or even choose to not move at all, an option that other races don't have (once you get one of these battleships moving they aren't stopped easily) with their maximum speed depending on the ships position relative to the local star.

The big downside Eldar ships have is that they are fragile and not very well protected. They rely on their holo fields to not get hit in the first place.
