On Friday, 27 August, my wife and I celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary.
A recent little status check on my dealing with Type II Diabetes:
Date: 04-20-2004
Weight: 245.8 lb
HbA1C: 9.7%
Date: 09-02-2004
Weight: 220.2 lb
HbA1C: 5.9%
(Healthy HbA1C values are under 6.5%)
It would appear that attention to diet (what and how much of it I eat) and exercise are definitely helping here. With appropriate medication, my blood sugar values are within healthy parameters, too.
For those who wonder, here's a description I found online of what the HbA1C test measures:
"The HbA1c test (hemoglobin A1c test, glycosylated hemoglobin A1c test, glycohemoglobin A1c test, or A1c test) is a lab test which reveals average blood glucose over a period of two to three months. Specifically, it measures the number of glucose molecules attached to hemoglobin, a substance in red blood cells."
Since too high an attached coating can damage the smaller blood vessels, you can see why getting this value down is important. _________________ "But the wildest of all the wild animals was the Cateagle. He walked by himself and all places were alike to him."
