No. There needs to be only one official version. |

It seems there are quite a few versions of Kay's extra-terrestrial Sholan origins floating around out there in PF furry writers heads, but everyone is waiting to see if it meshes with everyone elses story. Well, the result seems to be nothing gets written SO.... I propose this for "The Origins of Adventure Kay"
All origin storys for Adventure Kay CAN be written - you just need to preceed it with a simple prologue.
I'm thinking of a prologue about a storyteller (like a parent) being asked by her kit to read a bedtime story about the famous Adventure Kay, and the parent pulls out a book called "The Many Origins of Adventure Kay" Then the parent asks which one the kit would like to hear. Or it could be a future-time student of archeology thumbing through the same book in a library. He stops at a certain chapter and....
Tada! (Insert your version of Kay's Origins Here).
That way, no matter how many versions there are, the reader can choose which one they prefer to believe. You wouldn't have to wait for any other versions to be written either since they all would have the same Story-teller or Student Prologue.
Remember fur's - this is for fun and we don't want to get too wrapped up in what's "Canon" and proper for the story. The only thing I would ask is that the stories keep within the spirit of the Ad Kay character. Try to avaoid scenarios that are not PG rated, and also way out stuff like "In the Beginning, God created Adventure Kay" - (even though we as authors are doing exactly that!)
If this sounds like a viable idea, lemme know and I'll write a couple of Intro-prologue things and post them here.

Just so I know i got this correctly.
You (or Kay or whoever) write up this prologue and those who feel like doing so write up what they thing are the origins of Adventure Kay and then we all summarize them into a single book.
Something like that?
If it is, count me in. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

I like that idea. LOL! Saves me having to come up with a further prequel to the prequel. And I'd love to see what everyone comes up with. '-) _________________ Doctor Kayngi

I think it's a great idea. It allows everyone a chance to write stories for the same plot point and also keeps the Adventure Kay series in the same spirit as it was created: something for PF by the members of PF for PF's enjoyment ("Adventure Kay: An Experiment in Literary Socialism"?)
As a case in point, anybody know when Superman first debut in comics? If we stuck with that original plot point, Superman would now be a crusty 60-year-old WWII veteran who would be telling his grandkids how he kicked Hitler's butt for the hundred thousandth time. Or Superman would be limited to noir WWII settings. However, anybody who hasn't been living under a rock their entire lives knows that Superman is definitely not stuck in the 1940s and anyone familar with the comics knows that there are several Superman storylines abound that don't necessarily follow the same timeline.
"The Legends of Adventure Kay"...It has a nice modern-day mythological ring to it. Something different. _________________ Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Fellow creators the creator seeks--those who write new values on new tablets.

How's this for a prologue? This would allow for many different stories, not just the origin ones.
"The Legends of Adventure Kay"
Prologue by Cirrel 2004
He cracked the large book open one more time. He could access it just as easily from his terminal in the Furry University's dormitories, but there was something about being in this library that made the Adventure Kay stories so much more real. Professor Kayngi herself had actually roamed these very stacks doing her research into legendary artifacts and bygone civilizations. Her archeological adventures across the globe had been widely reported back then, but time had blurred the line between reality and fiction, and many 'legends' had sprouted from hear-say and rumor. Not all of them agreed with each other, but that didn't matter. Legends were like that sometimes. He glanced fondly at the title page. Underneath the title were the words:
"Legend is merely the Truth with a Heart and a Soul."
He ran his finger down the stacked pages and arbitrarily stopped. Opening the book to that page, he found the beginning of the chapter and began to read…
(Insert story Here)
This put at the beginning of any Ad Kay story would give the writer a bit of leeway with the 'facts'. Of course, colabberations are still good too.

I like it. Adds to the mystique of Adventure Kay. _________________ Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Fellow creators the creator seeks--those who write new values on new tablets.
